It seems Michael will be directing the music video for "Pearl Harbor."

Got this from countrystars.com (what was i doing around here you may ask? Someone gave me the heads up. No really.) Some of the facts may be wrong on this article, but you get the picture.

FAITH HILL FILMS MAJOR VIDEO FOR PEARL HARBOR TUNE

Touchstone Films flew Faith Hill to an undisclosed location outside of Dallas, TX where yesterday she began filming the video for "There You'll Be," the first single from the "Pearl Harbor" movie soundtrack album (CD due out June 16.) The video is being directed by none other than "Pearl Harbor" film director, Michael Bay. The Diane Warren-penned song will presumably be released to multiple radio formats May 22, the week before the Memorial Day weekend national release of the predicted blockbuster movie. Faith's only stipulation to filming the video this week, was that it had to wrap today so that she can return home to Nashville Saturday for daughter Gracie's 5th birthday.

"Pearl Harbor" promises guys all the action a war movie can pack into two hours and still include a love story for girls. The battle takes 40 minutes, about twice the screen time as the epic beach storming in Saving Private Ryan.''

Just a snippet from the Wall Street Journal's interview with Michael Bay:

"According to the Wall Street Journal, and as previously reported, Joe Roth split from Disney leaving Peter Schneider to take his place. In the early development of the film, when the budget was being estimated at over $200M, Schneider suggested that Bay be given his leave in favor of a director who could craft the film on a smaller budget. Word has it that Jerry Bruckheimer threatened to walk if Bay was axed, thus ending that.

In addition, in order to save on money, Disney wanted Bay to scuttle the Doolittle raid on Japan at the film's finale. This and the studio's demand that the helmer bring in the picture with a PG-13 rating rather than an R threatened to capsize the project with word that Bay was contemplating walking. Bay eventually won on the Doolittle front, but the film will be PG-13.

Still, though Bay got Doolittle, the studio demanded and got a studio executive on the set whose daily task was to watch the film's budget, which would seem to be stepping on the toes of Bruckheimer's responsibilities. (Cinescape)

Ok, I've been away for a while visiting family in Montreal.

Here's a very interesting article I found in the Hollywood Reporter. It's one of Michael's first interviews since finishing his final edit of Pearl Harbor.

This interview will air Monday, May 28 on the AMC channel.

'Pearl' should give explosive start to summer b.o.

Question: Is there any truth that Michael Bay will do his version of Paul Gallico's The Poseidon Adventure?

Answer: No.

Corona's Coming Attractions reported that Michael Bay is attached to this project. The report is untrue.

Question: Is there any truth that there is a secret 3rd disk on every on 1 of 300 copies of the Criterion Edition of The Rock?

Answer: No.

Here is Corona's response to this whole mess.

Tuesday, April 3, 2001... Stolen scoops with no credit and no credibility -- and just when you though there was some degree of common sense and courtesy on the internet, something happens that raises some questions.

Yesterday a scoop went up on Ananova announcing that Marlon Brando would play a part in the forthcoming Jerry Bruckheimer / Michael Bay film Pearl Harbor as officer Noel Kilty. Here is the full story, with no sources or credit given. But that's okay, because we know exactly where it came from. It was part of an scoop ran on the April 1st edition of Test Pattern about a suspicious sounding third disc found in copies of Criterion's The Rock DVD. We made it up, as part of the April Fools tradition here at Corona. Now, not only did the folks at Ananova take this scoop, post it as fact, not credit it or explain the details of how the information came out, but they almost created a widespread rumor based on a joke. And without that credit, or a link to show folks where the story came from, who is going to know it's a joke? This, in fact, is what almost happened.

We got e-mail from our friends at C.H.U.D., who were doing their best to find some confirmation one way or the other on this story before they ran it. Now the folks at C.H.U.D. are not the fools, and had they known that the story originated on the April 1st edition of Test Pattern they would have chuckled and moved on without a doubt. But when another website runs just a small part of the same story, it begins to look like two different sources of the same information, and maybe that means there is some truth to it. Well, I'm here to say there is absolutely no truth to the Marlon Brando joke at all. Will there be a character named officer Noel Kilty in Pearl Harbor? Rearrange the letters of the name itself and you'll get your answer.

Not Likely eh?

And the winner of the free Criterion Edition of The Rock is... James Cocherell.

For today's update, I have a little fact that strengthens my idea that Pearl Harbor will be awesome film.

For the film, Michael Bay was allowed to film underwater at the Arizona memorial. To date, no other feature film has been permitted to do so.

03.14.01

The response for the free Criterion Edition DVD of The Rock has been overwhelming. I gotta tell you, some of you have sent awesome submissions on why "The Rock" is your favorite film. It's gonna be harding choosing the winner...so keep on sending them.

03.13.01

I will be giving away a free copy of the 2-DVD set of the Criterion Edition of The Rock.

The contest will consist in sending an e-mail on why The Rock is your favorite action film.

I will then choose which is the best submission. And the winner will then receive his/her DVD.

Please send your submission to:

nelson@michaelbay.com

The contest is open to all (international and US residents). All submissions should be received no later than March 20 (12am EST, -5 GMT).

It seems that The Rock Criterion Collection's MSRP has been raised from $39.99 to $49.99. I don't think the online store has implemented this new price.... so, if you're planning on getting this title you better hurry up!

You can get it at Amazon.com at $27.99 by clicking here.

02.22.00

You can take a look at 3 Pearl Harbor posters by clicking here.

Hans Zimmer is still working on the score for the fast approaching Pearl Harbor. While talking to Hollywood Reporter columnist, Martin Grove, Zimmer revealed, "All I can tell you is right now as I'm sitting here is I've been sitting here for three days trying to write a great theme. I think all of that should be in capital letters -- A GREAT THEME. That's what you do at the beginning of these projects. You sit there and you try to write The Great Theme. It's very elusive. It tortures me and it tortures everybody around me. People don't even go near this room while I'm writing The Theme. And I haven't found it yet, so of course I'm in a complete panic, just like always. I always go through this stage."

When asked how much time he has for the theme, Zimmer replies, "I don't have any time. I don't know. I on purpose haven't looked at the calendar because that would be too terrifying. It's bad enough trying to write The Theme. It's even worse to try to have reality creep into this process. Reality is definitely the enemy in this case."

Regarding the difference between working with Ridley Scott and Michael Bay, the composer says, "I'm just about to find out. I think right now he's using the Ridley and Tony methods -- maybe they have conferred -- to leave me completely alone for a while and see what I come up with. We'll find out. I don't think I'll come up with something that will completely displease him. I think I know roughly where we want to go with this material." (Cinescape)

There are a couple news items today. The first being that Access Hollywood will be showing the NEW Pearl Harbor trailer on February 15, 2001. Check your local listings.

Here is another michaelbay.com exclusive (thanks to the "Ant" in the UK. You can see his site here ). This a story about the filming at Badmiton House.

One of the non-speaking stars of the UK filming was a small yappy dog. I guess he was the squadron mascot (we're not going to scare the enemy with that). One if the scenes had the dog being patted by Rafe (Ben Affleck) in one of those cheesy American movie clichés to show that the lead is a loveable rogue. Needless to say that yappy dogs aren't good at acting and there were a number of takes on that shot.

The next appearance by the dog was a scene in front of RAF Oakely (a.k.a. Badminton House) whereby the pilots sprint out towards their planes ready to engage the enemy. Set up to the right of the main door was the camera set to film the dog playing happily with a ball just as the pilots explode out of the door in clouds of dust, legs thrashing. So the scene was set, everyone was asked to be quiet (it was the last day and we were restless). The ball was put in front of the dog and it rocketed off with it, like a thing possessed. One of the assistant directors ran off after it obviously enjoying the play.

A few shots later and the dog was still happily running around with the ball. This time the pilots managed to get out of the door running. It was like watching fireworks explode as the dog ran towards them and the pilots jumped this way and that to avoid it. A few people stumbled. Everyone had to go back to first places for another take, and still the dog was running around with it's ball.

Just as they were setting up for another take the dog found itself running around the legs of the assistant director. Its nose was pushing tracks in the gravel as it nudged the ball around in circles and knocked against the AD. And over he went, crashing on the floor. He got up, dusted himself off and said, "That's going on MichaelBay.com!". The crew laughed. The extras laughed, however, I think it was more to do with the guy being an American and falling smack on his butt.

Anyway, here is a picture of Michael getting his hair done for his cameo in "Pearl Harbor."

There have been rumors that the production of Pearl Harbor is going to be delayed for numerous problems (lawsuits, historical innacuracies, etc). I am writing this update to clear up all this crap (I hardly respond to rumors). Some people...

That is NOT TRUE. These rumors are 100% BS. Disney, BayFilms, and Bruckiemer Films are all right on schedule. There are no lawsuits of any kind, and the historical aspect of the movie has been praised from the military to historians. That's the OFFICIAL word.

Having said that, the Criterion Edition of THE ROCK will be released on March 13, 2001. You can go here to pre-order it.

02.08.01

Seems that Disney has three posters planned for "Pearl Harbor" which are all linked together and here's a good quality shot of the first two. Check it out.

02.06.00

Do I have a treat for you all (no, it's not the NEW Pearl Harbor trailer). You can go to the multimedia section and see 4 music videos that were directed by Michael.

Also, this site is mentioned in an article by the Uk's 6degrees Film site. Click here to read the article. The article is entitled "Who Is Michael Bay." Apparently, the writer has some issues with Bay's editing style.

You can also read this important article where Michael Bay anounces he is forming his own as-yet-unnamed commercial production house. Click here to read the article.

January was an amazing month for michaelbay.com. This site went from 10 hits a day, to 100, to 250, and last month to 321,511 hits.

You know? I still remember the first visitor that posted in the guest book way back in fall of 1998. His name is Steve Muhr. So buddy, if you're out there, drop me a line.

I would like to thank all of you for making this site worthwhile maintaining.

As you can tell, we have a new design. You might ask: why such a simple (or plain design)? Well, we're going back to the basics. A minimalistic design with elegance, and a little of abstract.

For now, only the news section will be up.

01.21.00

The world premiere will be held at an outdoor theater on Pearl Harbor's Ford Island on May 21. Rear Adm. John Costas, acting Pacific Fleet deputy commander, says the Navy wants to invite former president George Bush to the premiere. Bush was a naval aviator who was shot down by the Japanese in WWII and rescued by a U.S. submarine. The film was shot at Pearl Harbor, Schofield Barracks, and other Oahu military installations with assistance from the Pentagon. Dept. of Defense approval is needed for the premiere to be held on Ford Island. (Variety)
